Path Takes Low Road

The Regional Council has backed the Rotary Pathway ,but by taking the low road at the base of the stopbank.Guess they had to be consistent with past decisions .It was an absolute farce around the table with Crs’von Dadelson and Scott abstaining from the vote after having taken part in discussions on these pathways for years. It could be that they will also remove themselves from discussing this issue at Annual Plan hearing time .Yeah right!

It would have been better if they did not get involved in the trust in the first place. They were elected to make decisions on behalf of ratepayers not for Rotary . Voting extra money for the pathway was great if you are a ratepayer .The extra funds required would have come forth over time but the ratepayer has to cough again.

Ocean Beach Saga

Hastings Councillors have agreed t go with an amended plan for Ocean Beach which proposes more dwellings than was in the original plan. This sounds like an attempt to pitch at a compromise with the developers who want 1000 dwellings. It is now a farcical situation .The ratepayers have forked out around $500,000 to reach this point and it may be to no avail . The plan change ,if lodged , will see a further flurry of activity and then commissioners will make a decision at any hearing . It would be interesting to see if there is any other situation such as this taking place in NZ.Doubt it.
