Given Message

The HB Regional Council Transport Committee have been given a message about concentrating too much on roading. The message to look at better use of public transport may be hard to swallow as it is very hard to get uptake in this area.Hawkes Bay is different to other main centres when it comes to public transport .Some $400,000 is already used to subsidise buses in the Bay and the bus companies are struggling to survive even with this subsidy. It would be a mammoth task to increase the current 1% patronage and it may be better to look at the light rail option between Napier and Hastings instead.

If the likes of the Northern Arterial were canned it may help an option such as this.
