Rates Enquiry
The results of the great rates enquiry were released today. First reaction to a few details is ‘no surprises’.
I think every ratepayer knows that rates have risen too much over the last few years but what we want to know is how can we avoid this. The first suggestions I hear are to charge more for dog control/chipping which we all said was a waste of time, and to look at charging more for monitoring brothels. This is another law that has been brought in recently, or should one say foisted on local authorities thus creating more staff ,more rates.
The brief for the committee was wrong to start with so I guess we couldn’t expect much anyway.
