Big Sunday

Last Sunday was a great day for supporters of Napiers aquarium. A good turnout showed that there is still big support for Marineland and that media coverage of this issue has often been biased.

Keep fighting.

Yule now President

Hastings Mayor, Lawrence Yule has been elected President of Local Government NZ. While it is a great achievment for a Hawkes Bay person there is a great question mark over the time involved for this position when Hastings has so much happening.
The Deputy President is Mayor Prendergast from Wellington.
The late Mr Jeremy  Dwyer would be proud to note the achievement  of Mr Yule.
Meerkat is pleased that Bob Harvey will have to be satisfied with someone from rural New Zealand.

Waitakere Woofter

It is astounding that ratepayers keep electing this turkey as Mayor in Waitakere.
He definately would not know what it is liike to live beyond the Bombay Hills. He talks of Mayor Yule as a friend and then in the same breath says he is from small rural area and suggests he couldn’t do the job of Chairing Local Government NZ.
Well Mr Yule shouldn,t be doing the job but not because of where he lives. He already has too much on his plate, that’s why.
What we need is more rural people running things and not dreamers like Mr Harvey.

Marineland Manouvres

The friends of Marineland in Napier are not giving up without a fight.Full page adverts to get Marineland preserved as an ongoing attraction.

Good on them. Marineland deserves better and the petition that was taken to Parliament was poorly handled, the MP’s were influenced by the greenies and lefties .

This has been another issue that has been dealt with in a peculiar manner.

It would be good to see some more dolphins appear there as if by magic. Good luck to them.

Woolshed Woes

Sometimes it’s hard to fathom what is happening with a council issue. The Aramoana woolshed purchase was initially opposed by the Regional Council and supported by the Central Hawkes Bay Council.
After the annual plan round the RC agreed to a deal to buy the ground and support as an educational facility.

Would you believe it? Now the CHB council is arguing over conflicts of interest, dealing with a backlash of ratepayers against the purchase and discussing the issue behind closed doors.
What on earth is going on??

Is this really a funding option to help all ratepayers or some who want to preserve that lovely woolshed smell?

It’s history and it’s by Te angi angi reserve and the expensive Shoal Beach development.

What is the real story?

Regrettable Decision

Mayors are supposed to be figureheads, leaders of people, chairs of councils.
In some cases the position of Mayor becomes more dictatorial, manipulative, demanding instead .The position is one that needs care so that fairness and consideration of all is paramount.

The whole process surrounding the Sports Park proposal has been one of divide and conquer.Do it my way or no way.

This is regrettable as the decision that has been made is held up as a decision that will be looked at as a bold decision.Just as was Splash Planet. A bold decision to spend vast amounts on a project that could have been more effective if delivered differently. A bold decision to ride roughshod over thinking people and to use a manipulated time to persuade newcomers to change their stance.
These people had the opportunity to stand up and be strong but they failed.
What is most unfortunate is that those thinking and caring people have little redress and while seeing the process undermined do not have any ability to have an investigation into the behind the scenes workings.

It is an absolute shame .The decision is wrong and some new councillors have become victims of the system already .

Appalling.

Sports Funding

Sometimes you have to shake your head a few times to make sure everything is attached. I mean the figures released showing that our great sports funding agency SPARC has 10 staff on $100,000 per annum and 14 on over $140,000 is as though someone is making up a story.
There are plenty of grafters out there earning a lot less and struggling to survive and they would match the abilities of these grossly overpaid individuals anytime.

This has to be the ultimate in trough feeding with the taxpayer being taken for another corporate ride until the rort is exposed.

This is a prime example of the possibilities that would surround the proposed sports park. The paid staff would be the only winners and it would be an extravagance we as ratepayers cannot afford to subsidise as that’s what would occur.

A change in Government this year had better put a halt to such profligate spending.

And I bet there is more to come.

Big Decision for Napier

This week the Napier City Council is going to make a decision on the future of Marineland.

This is a decision that will have a major impact on Napiers future and will most likely cut across the wishes of the thousands of petitioners that requested that marineland be allowed to add more dolphins and thus keep Napiers major attraction as a drawcard for tourists.

The outcome of this decision is likely to be dictated by our PC bent .It touches so much of our lives and kiwis do not stand up and defend common sense.
Naughty ,naughty Napier. Fancy keeping dolphins in captivity.

The decision may well have an impact that Napier people have not truly contemplated. There may be art deco but that is not every bodys’ cup of tea.
Not every one can go to sea and watch dolphins. Not every one can go to sea and watch whales.
It would be better to double the size of the pool and really make sometghing of Marineland.

Lets see who the brave are this week.
