No Proof on Dairy Farm

The Regional Council has moved some earth shattering ideas to try and deal with theĀ  pollution of streams running in to the Mohaka.

They have stated they have no proof that the problems are being caused by dairy farm effluent seeping through the surrounding pumice land. So….. how the hell can they hang this on the farms if they have no proof. Is there some other undetected problem in the vacinity?

They need to be very careful where they track with this one.

Barker-ing up the Wrong Tree

The non MP for Hastings had a rant on the radio about the move by two or three locals to push for amalgamation.Barker is all for it and used terms like ‘economies of scale’ to back his argument that a combined council would make savings.

List MP Barker , is typical of MP’s that have never been in local government. They think they know all about it but in actual fact, they don’t. Many MP’s don’t have a clue. They certainly have even less idea about what a Regional Council is there for.

It is far better that MP’s keep out of this one and let the ratepayers have their say.

Chamber True to Form

The Chamber of Commerce is acting true to form over the suggestion of council amalgamation. It is most unfortunate that these business people just do no grasp the difference in roles of councils. They suggest there will be savings when there won’t be any and suggest things will all run smoothly with a unitary council.

It is one area where business people cannot shift there business model over to local government. It doesn’t work like that.

There is a deliberate reason why regional councils were set up and largely that hasn’t changed. To join the functions is putting the fox in with the chickens and saying goodbye to environmental considerations.

The chamber should be demanding why the likes of the Hastings Council has increased staff so much and why have they built up such a large debt.

The chamber should focus on the real problems of local government in Hawkes Bay.

Unacceptable Decision

If it is true that the Government is about to sign an agreement with Ngati porou that will allow them to control access to east coast beaches and evenĀ  issue fines, then it is a sad day for New Zealand.

We are beginning to see the beginning of a great divide that is going to threaten the whole base of our society.

This continued separate development must stop.

Hastings DC Selloff

The public meeting held to update the public on the sports park was told last night that the council may sell off the Windsor Park netball courts.

The Mayor said it was no secret but it has certainly been kept quiet. It only accentuates the folly of the ambitious park project and would be a stupid move to make.

They would have been far better to upgrade the netball courts along with other Windsor Park facilities. The retention of the courts or the land at least is essential in case the park project falls over.

That is the way it is looking.

Mayor has no Mandate

Now the dust has settled over the Mayors move to try and force council amalgamation it has been realised that there is no opportunity for a Mayor to move in this way.

Local Government Legislation is clear about how amalgamations may come about and may be that is why there is no ability to allow Mayors to make this move.

In Hastings case it is nothing more than a dictatorial move to try and grab assets of the Regional Council to spend on a raft of projects.

With the state of Hastings finances it is time the books were looked at by an independent party to expose the precarious position foisted upon ratepayers .

Wanganui Decision

The decision by the geographic board to reccommend an ‘h’ be included in Wanganui, is a terrible decision. Regardless of history we have to grow up.This decision is taking us as kiwis back in time and even then no-one knows what was the going name way back then. No language no name.

Wanganui has been used for so long now it has existing use rights. It is an established name that has been cemented in.

The Minister who makes the final decision has a big call to make.Good luck to Mr Williamson.

Laws Right

What is true is that it is patently obvious that our school children are being indoctrinated by teachers on social issues that are going to have serious consequences in the future.

As someone pointed outduring the week Kura have become a place where a new breed of radical is being produced.

Micheal Laws has exposed this time bomb surprisingly over the “h” issue in Wanganui.

He says he will stick to his guns over this one and I hope he does.

Key Smacked Down

Keys continued perserverence over backing unelected Bradfords dictating nanny state bill is earning him no brownie points.

There comes a time when you have to tune in and hear what is being demanded by the majority of New Zealanders.

When will the penny drop?

No Local Treaty

The utterances of many parties over the subject of Maori representation on the Silly Super City are way of the mark and a major concern for the future of this country.

There is no way the Treaty ever envisaged racist representation on local authorities and it is an example of the dire situation we are in as a nation when commissions like that appointed to look at Auckland local government exceed their brief and pander to some guilt they hold.

The Hastings Mayor has fallen in to the same trap in his excitement in trying to capture personal power in Hawkes Bay.
