Mayor has no Mandate

Now the dust has settled over the Mayors move to try and force council amalgamation it has been realised that there is no opportunity for a Mayor to move in this way.

Local Government Legislation is clear about how amalgamations may come about and may be that is why there is no ability to allow Mayors to make this move.

In Hastings case it is nothing more than a dictatorial move to try and grab assets of the Regional Council to spend on a raft of projects.

With the state of Hastings finances it is time the books were looked at by an independent party to expose the precarious position foisted upon ratepayers .

Wanganui Decision

The decision by the geographic board to reccommend an ‘h’ be included in Wanganui, is a terrible decision. Regardless of history we have to grow up.This decision is taking us as kiwis back in time and even then no-one knows what was the going name way back then. No language no name.

Wanganui has been used for so long now it has existing use rights. It is an established name that has been cemented in.

The Minister who makes the final decision has a big call to make.Good luck to Mr Williamson.
