Vicki Buck

The Regional Council has a good thing going with it breakfast series but it is to be hoped in the future tghere are some more thought provoking speakers.
Rod Oram is interesting and makes some good points but at times a lack of experience in the real world is exposed.
Vicki Buck has come a long way since being Mayor of Christchurch.Looks like she has found her calling .
It is dangerous ground however and climate change is going to make or break many people.I guess while one is making money out of it one may as well keep plugging on.
Time for the Council to get a speaker with opposing views.

Voting Turnout

It is interesting to read comments from other blogs and newspapers in relation to why there was a low voter turnout at the local body elections.
There is some great discussion on this at kiwiblog.co.nz and it is pleasing to see some constructive comment about super councils.
They don,t work and remove people further from the political process and give the wrong people more power.
Arguments that it is better to have more councillors so that people can identify more easily with them recognise that it is this connection that is important and probably why more people don’t vote.
It is obvious that the HB Chamber of Commerce does little in the way of research in support of its approach.
Get rid of District Health Boards .Now theres an idea.If Kevin Atkinson is replaced as chair in HB then we will see how manipulated  this setup is.
