Issues this year for the Hastings District Council include Ocean Beach,massive council debt,northern arterial ,big box retail,and side issues like parking meters in Havelock North.Hastings has big problems.Sitting Councillors must be a little uneasy in their seats given the Nelson Park debacle and now the Ocean Beach charade.
The Napier city Council appears to be running fine ,but is it.?Marineland is an issue there ,should they be allowed to replace the dolphins?Roading,airport expansion and urban sprawl.Napier is in a strange position this year with the Local Government Commission making the half and half ruling.Half the councillors being elected at large and half in wards.How bizaar!We will all be watching which way Robyn Gwynne jumps.
The Regional Council has lost its way a little and needs to do a better job at differentiating itself so that it can do its job.The recent boundary changes have made the election interesting with the Hastings area being expanded.
